With my knowledge of the coast of Belize, I’m going to tell you about 17 of these islands. You will discover which of these islands you can book a room at or rent the whole damn island. Their location and one that is stuck in the dispute between Belize and Guatemala. Cruise Ship Goers, I have a couple of islands for you also. They are perfect for a day when the cruise ship isn’t in.

17 Islands in Belize, You Choice.

1. Ambergris Caye

Ambergris Caye is the largest island in Belize, it is approximately 36 miles in length. Home to numerous hotels and resorts. It is one of the islands closest to the Barrier and Mainland. Once there, you can enjoy plenty of water-related activities or go snorkeling or diving at the reef about a mile offshore. Planning to just relax, you can treat yourself to great food on the island restaurant. The main area on Ambergris Caye is known as San Pedro Town. The main mode of getting around on the island is by Golf Cart. You can get to the island by either taking a water taxi (ferry) or a Flight from Belize City or International Airport.

2. Caye Caulker

The Motto of Caye Caulker is “ Go Slow”, well the unofficial motto anyway. Caye Caulker is much different from its neighbor Ambergris Caye. You can still enjoy all the activities, Hotels and restaurants. The only difference; this island is smaller and not as crowded. The split is a popular place to chill, minutes walk away from where you are staying.

To the East of Belize City lies the Barrier Reef and 2 of the 3 Atolls in Belize. With the cruise port located in the city, there are a couple of islands here that cater to cruise passengers.

St. George's Caye

St. Goerge’s Caye is another one of those postcard islands. The Caye is a 20 minutes boat ride from Belize city and a couple of minutes from the Barrier Reef. Deep in the history of Belize, the resort of this Caribbean island is one you should visit. With Close access to the Mainland, you can explore Mayan ruins or go Scuba diving. With 12 tropical cabanas and daily beach barbeque, you can enjoy island life.

Goff's Caye

Goff’s Caye is a beautiful tiny island. Sandy beaches leading into turquoise waters, simply amazing for snorkeling. It’s a popular island for locals and tourists alike. Easy to reach, with picnic tables and restroom facilities is a great stop for anyone snorkeling in Belize.

Starfish island

Hey Cruise Guys, This is for You! Starfish Island is a great place for families to relax for the day. If a couple of miles from Belize city. You can enjoy music and a couple of watersports as well and swim, snorkeling. When it is not cruise day, tourists staying in Belize city may also visit this island.

Long Caye

Long Caye of Lighthouse reef atoll is one of the furthest islands from Belize. Here you will find 2 island resorts. Itza Resort is a beach from Island Resort offering Diving and Snorkeling. Long Caye is located about 45 miles from Belize City. It is one of the few islands in Belize with property for sale. The caye covers about 600 acres.

Halfmoon Caye

Halfmoon Caye also sits on the Lighthouse Reef Atoll. It has been featured in many postcards and is an island paradise. It’s one of the few places you can find the Red-footed booby bird. You can dive or snorkel around Halfmoon Caye but you cannot stay here. It is a popular stop when taking a trip to the Belize Great Blue Hole.

South Water Caye

Hey! One of the best islands for Diving and Snorkeling is South Water Caye. Being the largest Marine reserve in Belize, covering an astonishing 180 square miles. The island is home to two gorgeous resorts and the International Zoological Expeditions (IZE). Boats can reach South Water Caye and its island Resorts located south of Dangriga and Hopkins near the Reef. Being near the snorkelers can snorkel from the beach, and divers can swim to a dive site.

Tobacco Caye

Like a scene from a movie, you will enjoy a beautiful walk among the coconut trees. Sunbath on the white sandy beach, leading into the clear shallow turquoise water. Tobacco Caye for budget travelers and great for spotting tropical fish rays and many sea creatures. The tropical paradise, Tobacco Cate is approximately a 30 minutes boat ride from Dangriga Town or Hopkins Village. The island is about 18 acres of Caribbean wonderland with Great snorkeling, diving, and kayaking.

Silk Cayes

The Silk Cayes are 3 tiny islands on the barrier reef, near Placencia. The Islands for part of Gladden Spit Marine Reserve. You can not spend the night here, but it’s great for snorkeling and Diving. From March to June you can snorkel with whale sharks other sea animals in Belize. This Tiny island has a Picnic Table and a Ranger station.

Gladden Private Island

There aren’t many private islands for rent in Belize, such as Gladden Private island. an island worth mentioning. You can rent this entire island, near the barrier reef. It is located about 20 miles offshore Placencia. Accommodation on the island sleeps 2 to 4 people and would be great for anyone looking to do some snorkeling on diving in the area. The staff resides unseen on the smaller island behind Gladden, ready to respond to any request at a moment’s notice.

Harvest Caye

Harvest Caye is an island owned and developed by the Norwegian Cruise Line. There is great snorkeling and other activities here. However, this is a private island open only to the Cruise Passenger of Norwegian Cruise Line. It is one of two cruise ports in Belize, home to a wildlife sanctuary, Zip Lining from a lighthouse.

Laughing Bird Caye

Laughing Bird Caye national park is another famous island in Belize. It is great to spend the day, go diving, or Snorkeling. Take a sailing trip there on a Catamaran from Placencia. The park was named after the seagulls that once inhabited the island. It’s about 11 miles from the coast and is about 1.8 acres in size.

Laughing Caye is one of those beautiful islands you can enjoy, from your resort in the Cayes or from the Mainland.

Sarstoon Island

This little island is not in the sea, it’s in the Sarstoon River. The river separates Belize and Guatemala in the Toledo District. You can’t go there for anything, but you should know about it. Sarstoon Island has long been a part of Belize’s history. You can see what this island is often overlooked. Sorry, I didn’t cover any islands in Belize for sale. While there are plenty of islands in Belize for sales I hope to read about the ones that are inhabited or have been sold before.
