Hopkins
Hopkins is a small, vibrant Garifuna community that stretches along a two-mile strip of beach surrounded by the Maya Mountains and the Cockscomb Range inland, and the Caribbean Sea on its shore. The approximately 1,000 villagers live mostly by farming and fishing and more recently many have found work in the growing tourism industry.
Hopkins Garifuna are a distinct ethnic group emanating from the intermingling of West African slaves and indigenous Amerindians from South America. The Garifuna are known for their friendliness and genuine hospitality, and welcome visitors to their village. Hopkins was recently voted “The Friendliest Village in Belize” by Belize First Magazine and nearly everyone in the village speaks English. Hopkins has a selection of gift shops, restaurants and small bars which are popular with guests.
Hopkins is located 10 miles south along the coast and 25 miles by road from Dangriga.

Hopkins is ideal for day adventure and family activities such as: zip-lining, hiking, kayaking, diving, snorkeling, fishing and sailing or if you are an avid birder the area offers exceptional birding on land or over water or you can enjoy spending time biking around the village, taking a drumming lesson or relaxing at a beach-front resort.
Sittee River Kayaking – Explore the Sittee River on kayak! The Sittee is filled with opportunities to view wildlife. Many of these animals would be almost impossible to spot were it not for your ‘eagle eyed’ tour guide who will identify the many types of wildlife that call the Sittee River their home.
From Hopkins there are a number of inland attractions, including zip-lining and waterfall rappelling, guided hikes to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Preserve, visiting Maya ruins and Birding.
